Sensational European villas with hotels attached

Want all the fabulous facilities of a high-end hotel, but also the space and serenity of a private villa? Why settle for one when you can have both? Hotel-savvy Francesca Syz checks into six fabulous European villas

02 Finca Cortesin
1

Finca Cortesin, Andalucia, Spain

Tucked away in one of the Andalucian coast’s most exclusive enclaves, this white-washed boutique resort is the perfect blend of ‘stylish country manor’ and ‘rustic finca’. It has a wonderful spa, Michelin-starred restaurant and world-class golf course. New for 2019 are 16 mountainside five and six bedroom villas each with a beautifully designed kitchen (private chefs available on request), high-spec sound system, vast sun terrace, private pool and access to a four-seater electric golf buggy so you can zip around the estate. Villas from €5,500 per night

03 Borgo Egnazia
2

Borgo Egnazia, Puglia, Italy

This glamorous resort, a tufa stone-clad recreation of a citadel on Puglia’s Adriatic Coast, is famous for its faultless service and endless facilities – from its two private beaches and four pools to its kids’ club and Vair Spa with local ingredient-packed treatments, classes and retreats. A fun way to experience it is by booking one of the 29 three-bedroom villas dotted around the estate, each of which comes with a semi-covered terrace for year-round outdoor dining, and its own private pool. Villas from €909 per night on a B&B basis

01 Chateau St Pierre
3

Chateau St Pierre de Serjac, Languedoc, France

Set within a 200-acre vineyard estate in the Languedoc, this lovely chateau hotel has rooms in the main house and individually designed self-catering residences forged from characterful period outbuildings. Seventeen of these are exclusive-use villas, each with a large private garden and pool. That’s in addition to the hotel pool, which has views over the vines and gardens, the Med Garden Spa with its indoor pool, and the restaurant, laid-back cocktail bar and winery. There’s also a kid’s club during the school holidays and yoga classes in the summer. Two-bedroom villas from €335 per night

04 Anassa
4

Anassa, Cyprus

Right on the rugged Akamas Peninsula in Cyprus, Anassa is one of Europe’s best-loved beach retreats. A stay here is always a treat. Catering beautifully for couples and families alike, it has great restaurants (plus a barbecue on the beach once a week), an award-winning neo-classical Thalassotherapy spa and a village square with a Byzantine chapel for weddings. While the rooms are lovely – many have plunge pools – you can’t beat Anassa’s four exclusive-use villas for decadence. Villas Alexandros and Alcyone sleep six, while Andromeda and Aether sleep six adults and up to three kids. All have their own infinity-edged pool and sea view sun terrace. Villas from €3,607 per night

06 Ballyfin
5

Ballyfin, Ireland

Fans of this extraordinary late Georgian country house hotel in the Slieve Bloom Mountains of County Laois will be delighted to hear you can now ‘play house’ in its grounds, by renting The Gardener’s Cottage. Adjacent to the main house, the two-storey property has a bedroom, two bathrooms, sitting room with a roaring fire and double doors leading directly on to the lawn. The cottage also comes with its own golf buggy so you can strike out and explore the estate, and the nightly rate includes all meals in the main house. Alternatively, you can be ferried around by a butler. The Gardener’s Cottage from €2,000 per night on a full-board basis

05 D Resort Sibenik
6

D-Resort Sibenik, Croatia

Just outside the medieval town of Sibenik at the tip of its own peninsular, this fresh, contemporary hotel is surrounded by water on three sides and a stay here feels rather like being on a ship. And of course, every room has a sea view. The resort’s three exclusive-use villas, each sleeping four, are a vision of modern white concrete and wood, with floor-to-ceiling windows. Overlooking the marina, each has a plunge pool that seems almost suspended over the water. Villas from €616 per night, based on four sharing, and €100 per additional person
