The five virtues of BodyHoliday St Lucia

It’s cold, it’s dark, it’s February... and, despite every best intention, your ‘new year, new you’ resolutions have gone somewhat awry. So where better to get back on track than BodyHoliday St Lucia, the world’s leading all-inclusive wellness resort in the sun-drenched Caribbean? Here’s why your body and mind will thank you

Don’t worry, be happy

Don’t worry, be happy

With its mantra ‘Give us your body for a week and we’ll give you back your mind’, you’re off to a promising start at BodyHoliday St Lucia. Based around the four pillars of wellbeing – relaxation, restorative beauty, exercise and diet – the five-star resort is entirely devoted to your health and happiness, with a good dose of Vitamin D thrown in too. Set in an idyllic corner of the island, hugging Cariblue Beach, the wellness resort offers excellent facilities, a wealth of in-house expertise and nothing-is-too-much-bother staff. Sunset volleyball game? No problem. Herbal detox wrap? Of course. A homemade ice lolly poolside? Straight away.

Fit for purpose

Fit for purpose

Let’s get one thing straight: this isn’t bootcamp. Here, you can do as much or as little as you like. If you’d prefer to spend the day horizontal on a lounger, ‘Banana Colada’ in hand, no one will judge you. But if you do want to up your BPM, the list of activities is exhaustive, with every imaginable fitness class and manner of sport – on land and at sea. Group sessions range from sunrise spinning to body combat on the beach, plus there’s qigong, tai chi and Pilates, not to mention a watersports centre and sailing club, tennis, archery, fencing, biking and golf. And with themed programmes throughout the year – including ‘Jive-June’ and ‘Octoba Yoga’ – whoever said exercise is boring?

And relax…

And relax…

The emphasis throughout the resort is as much on soothing the senses and restoring the spirit as it is on getting you fitter. Pampering is an art form, whether you’re after a time-honoured treatment or a state-of-the-art therapy, with the Wellness Centre regularly scooping industry awards including Condé Nast Traveller’s coveted Best Overseas Destination Spa. But it’s the purpose-built Pavitra Ayurvedic Temple spa (where guests can receive a complimentary 50-minute spa treatment for each full day of their stay) that steals the show; dedicated to the ancient Indian philosophy, the extensive list of treatments includes chavutti – a full body oil massage applied with the foot – shirodhara, Hopi ear candling and mukhlepam facials.

In good taste

With a number of dining options and bars to choose from, they’ve got you covered. Whether it’s the sweeping breakfast buffet at Cariblue, a barefoot lunch in the Deli or dining under the stars at pan-Asian eaterie Tao, via afternoon tea in the Clubhouse, you will never go hungry. We promise. In keeping with the resort’s holistic ethos, menus are packed with locally sourced flavours and ingredients, many fresh from the organic garden. So too the cocktail list, while the Wine Salon is an added bonus for oenophiles. If you’d like to indulge a little less, the resident nutritionist can customise your eating plan and the wellness chefs will put it in place.
