See the Avios in everything

Theres no two ways about it – the British Airways American Express® Credit Card and British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Card help Executive Club Members to travel more, and travel better. Once you start collecting Avios with every eligible £1 spent, suddenly the Avios opportunities start appearing everywhere you go.

With this logic in mind, everyday buys turn into spectacular stays, mini toiletries become big adventures and even filling up at the petrol pump could lead to an epic road trip to remember. To help convince those of you not currently banking and travelling with the British Airways American Express Cards, The Club speaks to three Cardmembers ready to reveal when they’ve swiped a golden opportunity...

The impossible escape

Who’s talking: Matt Richardson, British Airways American Express Premium Plus Cardmember (which collects 1.5 Avios per £1 spent)

I was planning to make the most of the double bank holiday for the Queen’s Jubilee and my girlfriend and I wanted to get away somewhere – but not too far, which is why Mallorca was on the cards. Obviously, everyone else had the same idea, so I was left trying to figure out how I was going to make this work without spending £800 each on return flights to Palma. It then hit me – the Companion Voucher I had sitting in my account thanks to my British Airways American Express Card. Thanks to being a Premium Cardmember, two reward seats were there for the taking on a Palma flight (during half term, too, I might add), which I booked quicker than I’ve ever booked before. Club Europe both ways for two people – £103 and 38,000 Avios to boot. Still smug about it now.

Friend, referred

Who’s talking: Hannah Ralph, British Airways American Express Credit Cardmember

I’d been toying with the idea of signing up to the British Airways American Express Credit Card for a few months before I got one, but what tipped me over the edge was the happy confluence of a friend inviting me to apply (under the promise that I’d get a welcome bonus) and a sudden desire to invest in a mighty (expensive) DSLR camera. Once signed up and approved (its fee-free), I collected 5,000 bonus Avios (due to spending £1,000 in my first three months of Cardmembership – thanks, camera) and an extra 7,000 Avios on the Referral Bonus. My friend collected bumper Avios, too, and I’m planning to use all the extra Avios on a cabin upgrade on my next flight to New York. Win-win!

Big investments, bigger Avios

Who’s talking: Alex Palmer, British Airways American Express Credit Cardmember

It’s about knowing the right time to get an American Express® Card. For my wife and I, that meant right before we bought our new house. As a result, we put everything on the Card – furniture, essentials, improvements, the works. I’d guess the whole thing came to around £10,000 total. So not only did we reap the Avios from this spend, but we also got the extra Avios for spending over the threshold within the first three months of Cardmembership and – by spending such an amount in this concentrated time – we were easily able to reach the annual amount needed to qualify for a Companion Voucher. This meant all we had to pay were carrier fees and taxes on a recent romantic trip to Bologna, Italy.

With the British Airways American Express Credit Card (Representative 25.3% APR variable) and the British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card (Representative 103.1% APR variable), every time you checkout, it’s another opportunity to check out the world.
