A major draw for Paradisus is the outstanding Royal Service, the crowning glory of the resort’s all-inclusive luxury offering. Customers who opt in enjoy a discreet and efficient butler service that’s customised for each guest. From restaurant reservations to making sure the mini-bar is stocked just to your liking, the butler is there to attend to your every whim. You’ll also receive access to the exclusive Royal Service Lounge and gourmet restaurant, La Palapa (for breakfast and lunch) – where entrée is reserved for Royal Service guests. There’s a private swimming pool, a secluded RS-only beach and a massage lounge all encompassed within the package.

A key reason for Paradisus’ success is that it gets the simple things right. For a delicious night’s sleep, guests at Paradisus can choose between 58 swim-up suites (featuring private whirlpools), where you can step directly into one of the resort’s pools from your terrace. Elsewhere, any one of 336 modern-appointed suites will see you lounging in luxury – all are equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, rain showers, king-sized beds and nightly turndown services. With any room, you can expect a short walk to the beach and the option to upgrade to Royal Service at any time.

Sunbathing is thirsty work. Luckily for guests at Paradisus, they can pick from any of the 16 bars and 14 restaurants available. Eateries come in all shapes and sizes, but guests shouldn’t miss out on the resort’s culinary masterpiece: Martin Berasategui’s 5-Diamond, AAA Awarded Restaurant, Passion. Martin, once voted ‘Number 1 Chef Worldwide’ by TripAdvisor, has a mind-bending 10 Michelin Stars to his name. Next up, a trip to Red Lounge, the last standing bar, where the live music, salsa lessons and karaoke surprise everyone.

World-class waters

World-class waters

Paradisus La Perla is located blissfully close to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef – the world’s second-largest coral reef. Despite its proximity to this popular tourist area, the reef is extremely well-maintained and, you guessed it, is a world-class scuba diving destination. Divers in these waters find themselves in the company of some 500 fish species, turtles, manatees and whale sharks. The reef extends over 600 miles, so you can expect to find a spot all of your own.

Staying in Playa del Carmen puts you just 45 minutes from Cancun International Airport, and among some of the finest resorts on earth. The annual temperature is steady and steamy, while the seawater is warm all year round. If you head inland, there are incredible Mayan sites, such as archaeological wonder, Chichen Itza and the ecoparks of Xcaret and Xel-Ha to explore. Back at the resort, take the opportunity to try local tequila, tango therapy and live music; the essentials for any trip to the magic Maya Riviera.
